Back in February I posted an article predicting that the winner of the Kentucky Derby would be American Pharoah, that’s how it is spelled. Turns out I was right, and had you listened you could have won a bundle…..I hope you did!
So now everyone is asking my expert opinion on Saturday’s big race, the second leg of the Triple Crown. At a mile and three sixteenths, the Preakness is usually run at a faster pace than the Derby, and all three main Derby contenders will be running. American Pharoah WILL win…..here’s why.
He is simply the best horse and will win despite the fact that he’s being ridden by a lousy jockey. Victor Espinoza is a sometimes cruel excuse for a world-class rider, he rode a terrible race in the Derby and should have lost, but fortunately he was on the best horse. American Pharoah ran almost 60 feet further than any other horse in the Derby because Espinoza chose to run four wide for most of the race and ten wide down the stretch, that accumulated extra distance translated into almost 8 lengths, yet he still won by two. I’m sure he has been reprimanded by the trainer and the owner, and has been instructed how to win the Preakness. I expect the horse to lead from gate to wire and to win by 6 lengths.
N.B….there are rules in place that restrict the use of the whip by jockeys, Espinoza continually violates this rule and has been fined repeatedly for his cruel actions. Let’s hope he rides a cleaner race on Saturday.
